Hive Phenology
Hill City students are working with local phenology expert John Lattimer and have developed a phenology trail in the school forest. Students are recording data of specific plant species and developing a phenology report that gets read on the KAXE 91.7FM phenology radio program. We will have a working record of the phenological data over many years. This work includes observation and recording of plants and animal species, as well as soil and water chemistry data collection. We are hoping to catalog all the data into a database that will be a resource for the local community, state, and national phenological record keeping. We will be seeking grants for future forest improvements including signs for each of the plant species we are studying. These Hill City student phenology reports can also be found on the KAXE Phenology page. https://www.kaxe.org/programs/phenology#stream/0
